More than $100 million directed for homeless services by Austin City Council

On the last meeting before its six-week summer break, Austin City Council voted to direct $106.7 million of federal pandemic relief funds to the homelessness crisis.

Council directed how to spend $263.5 million in federal money from the American Rescue Plan Act on Thursday with the most going to homelessness services over a two-year period.

On Sunday, Austin police officers could start issuing citations to those camping in restricted areas as phase two of the reimplementation of the ban takes effect.

Before council went on break, it didn't come to a solution about sanctioned homeless camps, so as camps start to clear out, there is still no clear place for Austin's homeless to go.
