A fire that destroyed a home in Central Austin on Saturday morning was revealed as arson, the Austin Fire Department tweeted.


The fire department responded to a call on East 52nd Street at 7:29 a.m. to find a house with "moderate fire involvement." AFD was able to put out the fire but the house was totaled.

A man who lived in the house was transferred to the hospital for smoke inhalation. According to AFD, the resident will be transferred to jail after he is discharged from the hospital.

The house is a total loss of $285,000: $275,000 structural and $10,000 contents.
