Austin median home price reaches new all-time high

As more people move to Austin, housing costs are moving with them.

The median price of residential homes in the Austin-Round Rock metro skyrocketed in March. In a time of inflation and rising interest rates, the Austin Board of Realtors says the active housing market shows “true demand.”

How that’s played out:

  • In Austin, home sales decreased 6% while the median price reached a record $624,000 ($600,500 in Travis County).
  • Monthly housing inventory increased 0.1 months year-over-year to 0.5 months of inventory.

“The Austin area has a dire need for more housing stock across all housing types and price points, so last month’s increase in housing inventory and the number of homes on the market was a welcome sign,” Cord Shiflet, president of the Austin Board of Realtors said.
