All felt right in Austin for just a second as hundreds gathered at Zilker Park for the summer tradition of Blues on the Green, a free live music festival put on by Austin City Limits Radio, in July. But flashing back to 2020, organizers announced the last round of Blues on the Green for this season would be postponed.

The August shows, which were set for this Tuesday and Wednesday, will be delayed due to an accelerating COVID-19 situation in Austin, ACL Radio released in a statement. As Austin entered Stage 5 of Austin Public Health risk-based guidelines, vaccinated residents are asked to wear a mask at all times and unvaccinated residents are asked to avoid gatherings and mask up.

As COVID cases and hospitalizations ramp up, live music is in jeopardy—again. The Elephant Room, a downtown cool jazz basement, reopened in June after 15 months of closure before announcing a month later it would close its doors again due to COVID-19.
