A little over a month since the UK variant of COVID-19 was found on the University of Texas campus, the university sent out an alert that another variant originating from California has been identified at a campus testing site. The individuals who tested positive for the B.1.429 variant of the virus have been identified and are quarantining.

The variant was first identified in California in November 2020 and has since been found in 19 other countries.
