It's Father's Day, which means it's time to show the dads out there how much we appreciate them. If you're looking for a way to make the fathers in your life feel special outside the traditional gifts and cards, Austin businesses are here to give everyone a day to remember.
Here are some of the Father's Day events going on today.
Father’s Day Weekend at Pioneer Farms
Take a trip back in time with dad at Pioneer Farms, 10621 Pioneer Farms Drive, which is offering two special blacksmithing classes in time for Father's Day. From 9 a.m.-noon, dads will learn how to smith their own fork and spoon on Sunday, just like the pioneers did. Sunday's class will be followed by a chuckwagon-style lunch in Pioneer Farms' Town Square at 1 p.m. Classes cost $75 per person and dads get their first beer free!
Father’s Day Axes & Ales at Urban Axes
After a tough year, maybe you or the dad in your life is trying to let off some steam. What better way to let loose than a beer tasting and axe-throwing outing? Urban Axes, 812 Airport Blvd., is celebrating fathers in its "Fathers Day Axes & Ales" event. For $35 each, groups of either two-to-three or four-to-six can throw for an hour, enjoy a cold one and bond with dad. Participants must be 21 or older.
Father’s Day at K1 Speed
If the father in your life is someone who likes to go fast, give him the gift of adrenaline at K1 speed. For Father's Day only, K1 Speed is offering buy two get one free races around the track. He'll feel like a Formula 1 driver in one of the all-electric go-karts that reach top speeds of 45 mph just inches off the ground. Anyone 4'10" or taller can join in on the race and two races will run $39.95, remember to get the third one for free!
Fathers eat free at Il Brutto
Il Brutto, 1601 E. 6th Street, is taking care of dads this Sunday. The Italian restaurant is offering one free entrée to dads all day on Sunday, no matter what his favorite fare is, "because dammit, dads deserve love too." Grab your foodie father and nosh on some wood-fired pizza, housemade pasta, succulent beef tenderloin or anything the restaurant has to offer. As for the rest of the family, you're still going to have to pony up.
Father’s Day market with Veracruz Tacos
Veracruz All Natural, 1704 East Cesar Chavez Street, and Plaza Las Rosas are coming together to celebrate the dads out there with a wide array of tacos (try the chicken mole), 20 vendors from all over town and live music. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, enjoy a day in the heat while treating dad to an agua fresca or an artisan gift made by local creatives. The market is free to attend, so you're welcome to stay all day!

Arch Manning, the latest prospect in the Manning football family and No. 1 recruit in the class of 2023, has committed to the University of Texas.
Manning is the nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning and the son of Cooper Manning, a former wide receiver for Ole Miss. The Manning football legacy began with Archie Manning, Arch Manning's grandfather and namesake who played for the New Orleans Saints throughout the 1970s.

Manning joins head Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian's program after a disappointing 5-7 first season. Manning, who has been the starting quarterback at New Orlean's Newman High School since he was a freshman, was the No. 1 recruit in the 2023 class, according to 247sports.
Manning had plenty of SEC suitors, including Georgia, Alabama and LSU, but committed to Texas after a recent visit to Austin.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force has found the Jeep belonging to Kaitlin Armstrong, the accused murderer of professional cyclist Moriah “Mo” Wilson.
Armstrong is suspected to have killed Wilson—who was visiting Austin for a race in Hico, Texas last month—in a crime of passion after Wilson met up with her short-term ex-boyfriend Colin Strickland.
The Task Force said the black Jeep Cherokee was sold to a South Austin CarMax dealership on May 13, one day after being questioned by the Austin Police Department, for $12,200.
Armstrong was spotted at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport the next day, en route to LaGuardia Airport, but officials said they lost her trail after she was dropped off at Newark Liberty International Airport on May 18.
Investigators were unable to find any flight reservations under the name “Kaitlin Armstrong” and believe she may be using her sister’s name, Christine.
The case has been designated as a U.S. Marshals Service major case, which brings in more resources to the investigation; officials consider Armstrong dangerous. According to an anonymous tipster, Armstrong became “furious,” when she found out about Wilson and Strickland’s meeting and wanted to “kill” her.
Authorities believe the longer Armstrong is evading arrest, the more dangerous she may become, so anyone who sees her is encouraged to call 911 instead of approaching her. A $6,000 reward, along with an additional $15,000 from an anonymous donor, has been issued for information leading to her capture.
