'Does Pence have a bug on his head?' Austin confirms the star of the vice presidential debate was the fly

Wednesday's vice presidential debate brought the usual show to the screens of Americans across the nation, but what really stirred up social media was what appeared to be a fly on Vice President Mike Pence's head.

Hashtags with "Pence" and "the fly" took over Twitter, Americans astounded at the landing of a fly on the vice presidents head during the debate with Senator Kamala Harris. In Austin alone, more than 1 million tweets were about Pence with popular hashtags being #flygate and #FLY2020.

Local celebrities joined in on the fun, including former Longhorn and current sports analyst Emmanuel Acho, who like many, was confused if his eyes were clearly seeing a bug on the vice presidents's head.

Lucky for anyone confused, the Twitterverse confirmed Acho's and others speculation that a fly had made a grand landing on the white hair of Pence.

Austin couple, tennis star Andy Roddick and model and actor Brooklyn Decker, also took to Twitter to discuss the star of the show—the fly. They both tweeted a series of tweets. Decker's first fly tweet made up of two words, "A FLY" and Roddick's a one worder, "#fly."

While not tweeting, actor Elijah Wood retweeted Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's tweet, "flywillvote.com" and another tweet with #thefly.

The debate was the first and last vice presidential debate for 2020, with the next presidential debate scheduled for a later date than the previously planned Oct. 15 date due to Trump not wanting to participate in a virtual debate after contracting COVID-19.
