Uchi's Uchibā coming to Austin's new Google tower, offering more casual Japanese eats

Uchi is bringing its Uchibā restaurant to Austin. (Uchibā/Instagram)

High-end Japanese restaurant Uchi is expanding its Austin reach by adding Uchibā to its cohort of classy restaurants.

Uchibā, translated from Japanese to "Uchi bar," will open at the new curved Google tower downtown (currently under construction) in fall 2022. It will be the second Uchibā location after the Dallas' Top Knot location was converted to Uchibā in 2018. The restaurant is known as the more casual option of the Uchi chain.

Expect pristine bites of sushi yakitori grill items and small bites like bao at the new location, and don't forget to pair it with Japanese whiskey, sake, beer or cocktails.

Uchibā, located at 601 West Second Street, will be the fourth Hai Hospitality restaurant in Austin, with Uchi and Loro located on South Lamar and Uchiko on North Lamar. Hai Hospitality—the group behind Uchi—is Austin-based and has Uchi locations in Dallas and Housto

The new restaurant will stay open later than its sibling locations, keeping doors open until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight Fridays and Saturdays.
